No Retouch

I thought I was finished with talking about City Scape Winery after I published Monday's post. However, as I was reorganizing photos from the past couple of weeks I couldn't get over how well these photos turned out. At least in my humble opinion. Full disclosure there was no editing involved in these photos. None. I uploaded them to my Google drive, resized them for the post, and kept it moving. And now as I sit here talking about how I did not retouch these photos once I uploaded them I have another thought that takes the idea of retouching to a new level. Bear with me. Here we go.

I was watching an Instagram story yesterday evening about a blogger who felt like she was really struggling to compete, from a business sense, with others in the blogging world. I get that. I see bloggers and influencers who have turned a hobby into a full time business and I'm just like wow. You go Glenn Coco. I've been asked on several occasions if I get paid for some of the things I write about, wear, or when I was ecstatic Nike asked to feature my photos on their website. And the answer is no, no, and I wish. Much like anything else in life, it can be really easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourself to someone else's life or their success and get really down on yourself. I know I'm guilty of it. And then, like any human, I start thinking of things I should RETOUCH about myself or my life in order to have that same success or life.

I've got a really profound secret for y'all: THAT DOESN'T WORK!! The blogger whose story I was watching went on to talk about the importance of being your authentic self in all aspects of life. I really couldn't agree with her more. We're not all the same person, nor do we have all of the same interests or talents. That's okay. I mean, honestly, how boring would life be if we were all the same person? If we were all RETOUCHED to look, act, and think the same? Rather than comparing ourselves to one or another or feeling compelled to change something about ourselves, I think it's way more fun to befriend the people we admire. We may admire them for what they're doing in the world, how they're living life, or simply who they are as people. There's a lot we can learn from those people that will only make us better versions of ourselves.

As many of y'all know I surround myself with an incredibly diverse group of humans. They are all so different and unique that it always makes life interesting, exciting, and definitely entertaining. The best part of these people, and why I keep them around haha, is that they encourage me to be my totally authentic self, no RETOUCH. I can't thank them enough for that. I think we all need those kind of people in our lives- the ones who see the greatness inside and love our quirks and individualities (that's not a word, but I just added it to Google's dictionary. Whatevs).

Next time you feel less than or like you need to RETOUCH yourself or your life to make it more interesting or more like someone else's remember that there are people who love your authentic self and no one else can do you quite like you can.
