Foodie Files: Mimi's Cafe

Growing up on the west coast the food scene definitely spoiled me- In 'N Out, Jamba Juice, the best Mexican food around- this is probably how I became such a foodie. But there is no greater slice of foodie heaven than Mimi's Cafe. For those of you who have never been, Mimi's Cafe is a French-inspired restaurant serve French entrees with an American spin on them. The restaurant is modeled after what I would imagine a French cafe to look like and has a sweet charm about it that makes you feel like you're in France.

My sisters will remember this- when we were one of favorite restaurants to go to was Mimi's Cafe for two reasons. One, our grandmother's name is Mimi so I'm pretty sure we thought it was her restaurant. And the other reason was that each entree on the kid's section of the menu included the dirt pudding cups with chocolate pudding, Oreo crumbs, and gummy worms. It was literally our favorite thing and each time we went was a special treat for us. We also loved the Buttermilk Spice muffins and loved even more when our Mom would let each of us get one, which I can't imagine was cheap since there are three of us. Some people tell me I'm spoiled sometimes; I just don't see it! Haha
Fast forward 15 years or so and I move to Greensboro and, in wandering around one day, find out that Greensboro has a Mimi's Cafe! Yahtzee! I could not wait to go and, once again, Chaneya's visit last month was the perfect opportunity because I knew she had never been. Chaneya can sometimes be a little bit of a picky eater so I really hoped she would like the idea and find something on the menu she liked. Well you say BRUNCH and Chaneya is in so this restaurant was a winner.

The weekends are the best time to go because in addition to the all-day breakfast menu, Mimi's Cafe also serves $5 mimosas in several flavors. We both got one to go with our breakfast and the entire meal was just as fabulous as I had remembered it to be. To make it even better, I had signed up to receive e-mails from Mimi's Cafe before we went so I had a coupon for two free muffins of my choice. Why yes, I did get two Buttermilk Spice muffins for the road! I'm telling you always sign up to be on the mailing list. ALWAYS.
If you're ever within proximity to a Mimi's Cafe you have to stop and have breakfast, lunch, or dinner- they serve all three! And don't forget your Buttermilk Spice muffins!
