So Long, Farewell

Today is my final day at Western Carolina. I thought I would take today's post as an opportunity to reflect on the two years I've spent here and say a couple of thank you's. When I took this position I was young, and definitely a little naive. However, in the past two years I have learned so much about myself and grown so much.

Thank you Western Carolina for taking a chance on a twenty-three year old girl who was more often than not winging it and learning as she went every single day.

Thank you to my athletes for bearing with me when I forgot about your tutoring appointment or kept you waiting for a meeting. Thank you for trusting me to help you through the biggest transition of your adult life to date. I am incredibly proud of the people I have watched you become and honored for the part you allowed me to play. I know this is only the beginning for all of you.

Thank you to the friends who became family. I know I am a lot to handle sometimes. I could not be more lucky to have developed such a strong bond in such a short amount of time with a group of people like yourselves. You have made the strongest impression on me and have made me a stronger and better version of myself. Thank you for loving me as I am, for laughing at me when I'm being incredibly dramatic and theatrical, it's fine, and for helping to carry the load when I felt like I couldn't do it myself.

Thank you to the friends that already were like family. You all have believed in me and made me feel like I can do anything from the beginning. I probably would not have made it this far if I didn't want to make you all proud.

And thank you to my Mom and Dad and Alli and Caroline. I know watching my growing pains hasn't been easy. However, you have always been incredibly supportive of my goals and aspirations. Thank you for learning about the culture I work in and how the behind the scenes of college athletics works. Thank you for taking my phone calls when I all I wanted was to gripe and complain about something at the beginning of the call, but by the end had a fresh perspective and motivation to continue moving forward.

I made it through my first big girl job and the past two years because of all of you. It was not always perfect, but when I look back on it years from now I'll remember the good things and be so thankful to have all of you in my life.

Until next time...
