One of the great things about living in North Carolina, I have found, is that there are several awesome wineries within a short driving distance from almost anywhere in the state. To start my birthday weekend celebration my friends and I decided to do a tasting at St. Paul's Mountain in Hendersonville, North Carolina. If you have never gone to a winery or done a wine tasting I would highly recommend it. Not only do you get to sample wines and ciders produced on the property, but St. Paul's Mountain, in particular, has an added bonus in that there is a food truck on the property that makes delicious entrees to enjoy! My personal favorite are the shrimp tacos!

As opposed to having the same brands or flavors of wine from your local grocery, the wine produced at St. Paul's Mountain is unique to the area and to the winery and uses apples and grapes grown locally. Of course, you will find you classic reds and whites. However, the fun that comes from the tasting is that you can try wines and ciders you cannot try while sitting on your couch watching Scandal on a Thursday night. If you are ever in the Asheville area or near a local winery, I would definitely recommend pulling over!
